Privacy Policy
UIU Helper is a student-built academic companion for United International University students. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how external email drafts work.
Who We Are
UIU Helper provides tools for academic calendars, faculty information, CGPA and fee estimation, cover page generation, routine planning, and eLMS course participant email workflows.
UIU Helper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by United International University.
Information We Collect
- Academic tool inputs that you enter into the app, such as CGPA, fee, cover page, routine, or email draft fields.
- eLMS login information that you submit to sign in to Moodle. Your password is sent to Moodle for authentication and is not stored by UIU Helper.
- An opaque eLMS session cookie so you can use protected eLMS tools during your session. Moodle tokens, including the private token when Moodle returns one, and a temporary Moodle web-session cookie used for self-unenrolment are stored encrypted server-side and are not placed in your browser.
- eLMS course and participant information returned by Moodle for courses available through your own eLMS account, including names, roles, student IDs where present, and email addresses.
- Basic technical information that your browser and hosting platform may provide, such as request metadata needed to operate, secure, and debug the service.
External Email Drafts
UIU Helper prepares email drafts but does not connect to your Google account or send messages. When you choose Open email draft, the selected recipients, subject, body, and signature are passed to your email client through a draft link.
- Touch devices use a standard mail link. Supported desktop browsers may open a Gmail compose page.
- An optional Gmail account hint can help the browser choose an account. It does not authorize UIU Helper to access that account.
- Your email provider receives the draft values only after you choose to open the external draft.
- You review and send the message from your email client. UIU Helper does not receive a delivery result.
How We Use Information
- To provide the academic tools you choose to use.
- To authenticate your eLMS session and fetch your enrolled courses and participants from Moodle.
- To generate, preview, and open course email drafts based on your selected recipients, subject, body, and template.
- To protect the service, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and maintain app reliability.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share participant email lists with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.
We may share information only when needed:
- With Moodle/eLMS to provide the course features you request.
- With your chosen email provider when you open an external draft.
- With infrastructure providers that host or operate the app, under appropriate security controls.
- When required by law, legal process, or to protect the safety, security, and integrity of UIU Helper.
Storage and Retention
- eLMS passwords are not stored by UIU Helper after the login request is sent to Moodle.
- eLMS session cookies expire automatically. Logging out can keep your Moodle mobile app session or revoke the Moodle mobile token before deleting the matching server-side session.
- Email drafts and selected recipients are used for the current compose flow and are not intentionally stored as a message archive by UIU Helper. Saved signatures remain in your browser storage.
Your Choices
- You can use many UIU Helper tools without eLMS login.
- You can preview a message locally or open a Gmail or mailto draft in your chosen email client.
- You can clear browser cookies or sign out of eLMS to remove local session access.
Security
We use httpOnly cookies for eLMS sessions and keep Moodle tokens, Moodle private tokens, and Moodle web-session cookies encrypted server-side. UIU Helper does not request Gmail OAuth access or store Gmail tokens. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we aim to use reasonable safeguards for data in transit and at rest.
Children
UIU Helper is intended for university students and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. If we materially change how we use personal information, we will update this page and, where required, ask users to consent before using data in a new way.
