Privacy Policy
UIU Helper is a student-built academic companion for United International University students. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we handle Google user data when you choose to connect Gmail.
Who We Are
UIU Helper provides tools for academic calendars, faculty information, CGPA and fee estimation, cover page generation, routine planning, and eLMS course participant email workflows.
UIU Helper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by United International University.
Information We Collect
- Academic tool inputs that you enter into the app, such as CGPA, fee, cover page, routine, or email draft fields.
- eLMS login information that you submit to sign in to Moodle. Your password is sent to Moodle for authentication and is not stored by UIU Helper.
- An eLMS session token stored in an httpOnly cookie so you can use protected eLMS tools during your session.
- eLMS course and participant information returned by Moodle for courses available through your own eLMS account, including names, roles, student IDs where present, and email addresses.
- If you connect Gmail, Google account information needed for the Gmail send flow, including your Google email address and a short-lived access token.
- Basic technical information that your browser and hosting platform may provide, such as request metadata needed to operate, secure, and debug the service.
Google User Data and Gmail Access
Gmail connection is optional. If you connect Gmail, UIU Helper requests access to the gmail.send scope only so you can send the course email that you compose in the app.
- We use Gmail access only to send the email that you review and confirm.
- We do not read, list, search, store, modify, or delete your Gmail messages.
- We do not request or store a Gmail refresh token. The access token is short-lived and stored in an httpOnly cookie.
- By default, UIU Helper revokes its Gmail access after a successful send unless you turn that option off.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, resale, or any unrelated purpose.
UIU Helper's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How We Use Information
- To provide the academic tools you choose to use.
- To authenticate your eLMS session and fetch your enrolled courses and participants from Moodle.
- To generate, preview, open, or send course emails based on your selected recipients, subject, body, and template.
- To protect the service, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and maintain app reliability.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information or Google user data. We do not share participant email lists with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.
We may share information only when needed:
- With Moodle/eLMS and Google APIs to provide the features you request.
- With infrastructure providers that host or operate the app, under appropriate security controls.
- When required by law, legal process, or to protect the safety, security, and integrity of UIU Helper.
Storage and Retention
- eLMS passwords are not stored by UIU Helper after the login request is sent to Moodle.
- eLMS session cookies expire automatically and can be cleared by logging out.
- Gmail access tokens are short-lived and can be revoked by using the disconnect option in the app.
- Email drafts, selected recipients, and rendered Gmail previews are used for the current compose flow and are not intentionally stored as a message archive by UIU Helper.
Your Choices
- You can use many UIU Helper tools without eLMS login.
- You can use the email composer without connecting Gmail by opening a manual Gmail or mailto draft.
- You can disconnect Gmail from inside UIU Helper or revoke access from your Google Account permissions page.
- You can clear browser cookies or sign out of eLMS to remove local session access.
Security
We use httpOnly cookies for eLMS and Gmail tokens where applicable and limit Google OAuth access to the minimum scope needed for the visible Gmail sending feature. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we aim to use reasonable safeguards for data in transit and at rest.
Children
UIU Helper is intended for university students and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. If we materially change how we use Google user data or other personal information, we will update this page and, where required, ask users to consent before using data in a new way.
